The University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center is a 720-bed system with a Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and an internationally recognized Level III NICU. UMass Memorial Medical Center is the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. As a multi-hospital system we offer you the opportunity to learn in both academic and community settings under the guidance of over 50 Emergency Medicine physicians, and a variety of other healthcare specialists.
UMass operates Life Flight, a medical/critical care transport service staffed by EM Residents and Flight Nurses. We were the first program in New England and we consistently achieve a safety record in the top 1%. We also run Worcester's top rated urban EMS/911 service.
We are among the highest NIH funded Emergency Medicine Departments in the country and offer ample clinical and bench research opportunities.
The Department of Emergency Medicine includes the Regional Toxicology Center and an on-site Simulation Training Center. Our new, state of the art, 66-bed, 70,000 sq. foot facility covers a service area of over one-million people. There is a separate Pediatric ED, an air ambulance program and we are a hospital-based EMS provider. Fellowships include EMS/Disaster, Toxicology, Ultrasound and soon a Fellowship in Disaster Medicine and Emergency Management. We rank twenty-second in the US for total combined patient volume at approximately 167,000 ED visits per year at four practice sites.
